Our world

Summary

In this project, students will explore and compare facts about their own school with those of their partner school using surveys, on-line chat forums and poll questions. They then analyse the data and present the information using graphs/charts. In the final part of the project, students will produce a visual powerpoint presentation at to summarise their findings.

Preparing the survey

In this first stage, students need to decide the purpose of their survey. For example, they might want to compare travel facilities in their own school with that of the partner school. This is an important stage of the project and students should take some time planning the questions. In addition, the end result is an analysis of the results with presentations made using charts/graphs etc. This will influence the way the questions are framed to allow a numerical analysis.

Exchanging the survey

In this stage, students will exchange their surveys with partner schools to be completed. Once the partner school has completed the results, they are sent back to be analysed. Students can use the discussion forum to ask for any clarification.

Analysing the results

In this stage, students analyse the results of the survey comparing the results from their own school with those from their partner school. This analysis can be done using any appropriate spreadsheet package such as Microsoft excel. Results are to be presented as a chart.

Presenting the results

In this final part of the project, students will present the data in the form of a powerpoint presentation. They must also try to interpret the results and the reasons for any differences (see how this is done in the powerpoint show). They could use the discussion forum to find out the reasons for any difference.

Why do more students in your school in Madrid walk to school?

What is your opinion

In this poll, students will come up with a question as a poll to see what students from both school feel. The poll question is related to an aspect of the original survey. Students should also include the results of the poll in their final presentation.
